Antipodes
Antipodes was established
in 1987 by the
AAALS. Since then, the journal has become widely
respected
for its extensive and distinctive coverage of Australian literature and
culture--and a valuable source for those interested in the antipodes.
Here's
why:
- Antipodes publishes
new
work by Australian
poets and fiction writers.
- Antipodes is a fully-refereed
academic journal
- Antipodes offers
original essays (all refereed) on Australian
writers' work since 1788, on film and art, on varied ways to examine
the
country's literature and culture. The contributors are from all parts
of
the world.
- Antipodes provides
in-depth interviews
with writers.
- Antipodes reviews
fiction, poetry, and
drama, as well as biography, criticism, and social history. Written by
informed reviewers, the criticism is extended, well-balanced, and
objective.
- Antipodes furnishes
an
annual bibliography
of Australian literature and criticism published in North America.
- Antipodes makes
full
use of photographs
and art. Produced in a handsome 8-1/2 by 11 inch format, the journal is
as pleasant to look at as it is to read.

Essay
Submissions
To submit
essays or literary
works...
Essays on any aspect of Australian
literature
and/or culture are invited; comparative studies are especially
encouraged.
The essays should not exceed 5000 words and should conform to MLA
style. Antipodes
does not pay for essays or book reviews.
Please consult the Antipodes
style sheet before submitting a contribution!
Submissions of short fiction,
parts of novels,
drama, poetry by Australian
writers are invited. Each story, poem and piece of 'creative nonfiction' published in Antipodes
is
rewarded with US$ 50 and one complementary copy of the journal.
Antipodes publishes only
fiction, poetry,
articles, and interviews that have not appeared in other
publications: Antipodes therefore does NOT accept simultaneous submissions. Though based in North
America, we are widely read and distributed electronically in Australia and the
same audience who read magazines published in Australia will read this magazine.
The globalization of publishing means that it is impossible for us to publish a
story that appears in any other magazine anywhere in the world.
All material is subject to
editing to conform
with Antipodes style.
All U.S. submissions should be
accompanied
by a stamped return envelope.
All correspondence with the
Editors must be by e-mail or snail-mail. Because of international
telephone costs, faxing or telephoning are impossible for the
editors of ANTIPODES.
All accepted articles
will, after editing and formatting for the issue in which they are to appear, be
e-mailed to the authors in PDF form. PDF requires Adobe Acrobat Reader which can
be downloaded for free at www.adobe.com. No
other format can be used. PDF proofs must be responded to within two weeks--this
is a firm deadline--and any corrections communicated to the Editor or Associate
Editor. At this stage, no substantive alteration can be made--spelling and
italicization corrects and slight rewordings are all that can be
accommodated.
International postage coupons
are requested
in order to return overseas mail.
The editors and publishers of Antipodes
assume no responsibility for contributors' opinions.
Antipodes is indexed in
the annual MLA
International Bibliography and in AUSTLIT.
Copyright of fiction and poetry
lies with the
authors. Permission to reprint critical material must be obtained from Antipodes,
and full credit given.
Any images or
copyright material to appear in an article must be obtained by the
author before the article is submitted to ANTIPODES. The Editors will
take no responsibility for such material. In addition, any permissions
required by changes in text or presentation, or added images
requested by the Editors, must be obtained by the author.
Notice-Board
Important notice on unauthorized reproduction of Antipodes Material
-
June 2006: Peggie Ashlevitz of Thomson Gale, the vendor who was selling Antipodes
articles on Amazon, has assured the Editor of Antipodes that, as of July 2006,
all material from Antipodes will no longer be available for purchase on
Amazon.
- 2005: The editors of Antipodes have recently become aware that individual
articles from the journal are being sold for $5.95 on amazon.com. The
selling of articles from learned journals published in the USA on
Amazon is a widespread phenomenon, not unique to us and not authorized
by us or, apparently, any of the learned journals whose articles are
being so sold. We have given no permission for any of our material
to be on sale at Amazon.com--. Antipodes has never authorized any resale by anyone of articles published
in it on Amazon.
Any further questions should be referred to amazon.com
